BREAKING NEWS: PM Tells Opposition Party to Watch for Unity of the CPP on 24 December

KANDAL: Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new international airport in Kandal Stung District, Kandal Province, Prime Minister Hun Sen said that the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) is a united party with sufficient human resources that thinks about the future of Cambodia.

The Prime Minister told the opposition party to watch for the unity of the CPP during the meeting of the Central Committee of the People's Party on 24 December, including the next Prime Ministerial candidacy that has been discussed in previous days.

He further spoke about a meeting he had with his fellow Ministers:

"Yesterday, we had a meeting at my house. Sar Kheng (Minister of Interior), Men Sam An (Permanent Deputy Prime Minister), Tea Banh (Minister for National Defense) and I from the Reserve Cabinet, but not about 2023 (regarding the next election)! But at some point, we have to look at the real situation and be sustainable, other companies do not worry. We do it, and we will continue to do it. From father to son, it will continue! These achievements are protected by the CPP."

The CPP was founded on 28 June 1951 by Cambodian nationalists to liberate the Cambodia from French colonization. It is the oldest party in the Kingdom and led the struggle to liberate the Cambodian people from the Khmer Rouge regime in 1979.

The party is currently led by Prime Minister Hun Sen, with two vice presidents, Deputy Prime Minister Sar Kheng and Senate President Say Chhum, and President of the National Assembly, Heng Samrin, as the honorary president of the party. The CPP Central Committee currently has 837 members.
